KAP vision:

“That the communities of Ndhiwa, in Western Kenya, can become self-sufficient, free from disease, with access to quality health care and health education, and where all children have access to quality education”

KAP mission statement:

“The Kenya Acorn Project seeks to reduce the incidence of death and disease, to promote the health of the population, and to improve the educational attainment of the pre-and primary school children in the area of Ndhiwa, by working in partnership with local communities, Government agencies and other voluntary organisations”.

KAP philosophy:

“Our philosophy is people-centred. Our belief is to concentrate on what matters most to the people with whom we are partners, respecting their rights, cultures, values and beliefs, supporting their own efforts, irrespective of their health status.”

KAP areas of focus:
  • Health, including HIV & AIDS
  •  Education
  •  Ndhiwa Training and Resource Centre
  • Geographical areas of focus: Ndhiwa town and environs, primary schools of Ndhiwa, Pala, Sibuoche, Rangenya and Mbani, and the KAP nursery.

Specific goals for the near future:

KAP is currently writing a strategic plan for activities in the next four or five years. The strategic plan will be published soon. Some objectives are:

  • Develop a community based program for HIV/AIDS care

  • Employ a school/community nurse who deals with community health, health education, immunization and outreach  clinics

  • Imrove self-sustainability of the hospital by increasing income and improving efficiency

  • Improve hospital services by purchasing equipment and education for staff

  • Mobilize community to work together to improve road to hospital

  • Continue to work together with schools to improve infrastructure (building classrooms and water catchment systems)

  • Improve interaction between KAP schools
